Briton Ferry Silver Band is a long-established brass band with deep roots in the local community of Briton Ferry, South Wales. The band was formed in 1910, although prior to that there had been a military style band in Briton Ferry since the 1880s. There was a time when most villages and towns had their own brass band. Over the years, many bands have disappeared, but Briton Ferry Silver Band has remained constant. Today the band is going from strength to strength and its membership is high. There is a solid hard core of members and many generations of families have, and still do play with the band. The band has been an enduring part of the town’s cultural life for over a century — bringing music, tradition, and togetherness to generations of local people.
We are a non-profit, community-based organisation dedicated to promoting brass music, supporting musical education, and providing opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to enjoy and grow through music. From contest stages to community halls, parades to park bandstands, our band has proudly represented Briton Ferry across Wales and beyond.
Our members come from all walks of life — from schoolchildren picking up an instrument for the first time, to experienced players with decades of performance behind them. What unites us is a shared passion for brass banding and a strong sense of belonging. We rehearse regularly in our own bandroom, working hard to maintain musical standards while ensuring a friendly and supportive environment for all.
Over the years, Briton Ferry Silver Band has competed at various levels within the Welsh banding scene, taken part in national events, and supported countless local activities — from Remembrance services to charity fundraisers and festive celebrations. We take pride in being an active and reliable part of our community.
